Title Page and Throughout
Include a Running Head, appropriately; All pages must be numbered.
abstracr Short (maybe 120-150 words); Probably include some information from each section of overall manuscript.
Introduction
(1) About 2-3 pages; No first names or initials; Use “et al.” appropriately; Avoid quotes.
(2) Do not include trivial details about previous studies (number of participants, where the research was
conducted).
(3) For “Transition and Setting-Up Hypotheses,” briefly introduce upcoming experiment and briefly describe
at least one, probably two IVs, and one DV.
Method
(1) Sub-sections should be Sample (Participants?), Materials, Design, Procedure, OR Sample, Materials and
Procedure, Design (Not underlined; McBride’s Chapter 8 has Design before Materials, which is okay.)
(2) For “Materials,” maybe refer to an Appendix, although you must still describe basic items/questions in the
text. Not all readers want to read an appendix. (DO NOT SIMPLY ATTACH YOUR SURVEY, ETC, AS
THE APPENDIX. Shorten everything so it only includes information needed for a basic follow-up study.)
(3) For “Design,” start with a sentence identifying the factorial design. Then describe the IVs and DV.
Results
(1) Start with a short paragraph stating the “overall” mean and standard deviation for the DV. Then identify
the upcoming analysis (or analyses) and state that .05 was used for all judgments about statistical significance.
(2) For all main effects that are statistically significant, include Ms and SDs for each level. Use Fs, ps, also
MSEs and effect sizes appropriately.
(3) When you refer to a figure/graph, briefly describe the pattern that shows-up in the graph. Graphs are
Figures, not Appendices.
(4) For Figures/Graphs: No titles, only brief figure captions. Background must be white (not gray); Lines
AND words must be fairly bold; Include labels appropriately. Include “markers” for lines.
(5) DO NOT INCLUDE/ATTACH ANY PSPP OR JASP OUTPUTS!
Discussion
(1) Start with a paragraph that summarizes the results. No numbers.
(2) For “Explaining the Results,” include how results are compatible or not compatible with previous research.
(So include about two references to previous studies.)
References
(1) At least four must be from scientific journals (5-6 is preferred). Remember alphabetical order. Only
include references you actually saw and actually used in the manuscript.
(2) For journal articles, include DOI numbers appropriately, if available (e.g., https://doi:10.1045/. . . ).
Remember to include issue numbers with volume numbers (e.g., Journal of Psychology, 21(2), 72-76. BE
CAREFUL ABOUT SIMPLY COPY/PASTING REFERENCES – AVOID SHADED BACKGROUNDS.
