April 22, 2024

This paper assignment can be submitted in  an ~10 page paper (double spaced and in Times New Roman font, size 12).
This paper should provide clearly constructed arguments written in complete sentences and paragraphs. You will be graded for clarity in your writing and presentation of ideas.  You should include references at the end of your paper or in the question provided at the end of the assignment. Your reference page should not be counted towards the total paper length. You should use APA style for your in-text and end-of-text citations. You will not be graded on your use of APA style but you will lose points for failing to reference material in a way that the reader can follow and find. Please see the APA reference guide for details in formatting references. To cite the textbook, use this format for in-text citations: “(Aronson et al., 2023, Chapter 1).” To cite all other research articles, use this format for in-text citations “(Smith et al., 1993)” or “(Robinson & Daley, 2021).” In essence, make sure we (a) know if an idea you are demonstrating is your own or not and (b) can easily find the original source of where the idea came from.
Students are strongly encouraged to plan ahead in order to anticipate any impediments to completing the final paper assignment.
LATE ASSIGNMENTS WILL BE LIMITED TO ONLY 3 DAYS.  NO SUBMISSIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED AFTER 5PM ON MAY 6TH.  This policy will enable us to grade your paper and determine your final grade in time for the University mandated grade submission deadline.
This final project is intended to apply what you have learned throughout the class into a film analysis .  You should be able to demonstrate your level of mastery and understanding of social psychology in your final project. This should reflect your cumulative knowledge of the course material and topics. Think about this project as a cumulative final exam, but, in this case, it is a cumulative final paper with the flexibility for you to use all of the resources available to you to demonstrate your understanding of the material covered in this class. You can choose any topic covered in the lecture, textbooks, or assigned readings but be sure that you are well within the domain of social psychology.
Papers whose analyses/critical evaluations are not clearly and directly engaging with ideas and findings from social psychology will receive a score of 0. This is your chance to show what you’ve learned in this class and, therefore, it must be clear that your paper is utilizing ideas from social psychology.
The  film you choose does not need to be directly about social psychology but your application and analysis do. Often it is easier to apply social psychology to a film that is directly related to social psychology but this is not a requirement. What is required is that the phenomena, theory, and content you draw upon for the majority of your paper in analyzing/critically evaluating your film are from social psychology.  In most cases, successful papers will incorporate information and insights from multiple units throughout the semester. Keep in mind that many topics are related to one another and some topics may more easily overlap than others.
You should include references to lectures, readings, and/or outside validated, peer-reviewed sources to support your claims. Although we will not be grading by the pure number of citations, typically papers that include at least 10 references are the most successful. If you are struggling with finding scientific sources, please see the Getting Started in Research Literature in Psychology Guide from the University of Minnesota Libraries. In general, you should paraphrase the findings or suggestions from the empirical articles you are using (i.e., communicate the argument/observation in your own words).  When there is a specific point you want to emphasize with a direct quote, please be sure to identify it appropriately
A note about plagiarism: Any ideas that are not your own should be identified as such (i.e., extend credit to someone else when credit is due him or her).
Please carefully review the rubrics attached below to ensure that you do not miss anything that should be included in the final paper.
The project options are described in more detail below:

Film Analysis. For this version of the assignment, you will be asked to select a film of your choosing and analyze it using any of the concepts covered in class throughout the term. Your paper should support a thesis of your choice and should draw upon content from the lectures and readings to support your argument. A list of suggested films is attached here
Download A list of suggested films is attached here
; however, you are welcome to choose any film that you believe you can adequately write a paper about.
At a minimum, your analysis should:
– Include a clear thesis about how social psychology can be used to better understand your film of choice. Your thesis needs to be clear, direct, and supported by the remainder of your paper. (This should be 1 paragraph at the beginning of your paper. The general theme and tenant of the thesis should, however, be carried throughout the paper).
– Summarize the film you are evaluating. Provide enough information for the reader to understand the premise of the film and any core features, characters, etc. Basically, tell us what we absolutely need to know to understand the rest of your paper. (This should be no more than 1 paragraph and no longer than 1 page, at an absolute maximum. Most summaries will be significantly shorter than 1 page).
– Thoughtfully describe the social-psychological concepts, theories, and/or literature you will be using to understand and analyze your chosen film. Explain what the concepts are in their fundamental forms. For example, if you are using the Stereotype Content Model to guide your analysis of a film, you should begin by describing the dimensions of warmth and competence and the quadrants they form as well as describe the implications of those stereotype domains. That is, make sure you demonstrate that you know what the concept is before you apply it. (This should be ~2-3 pages of your paper. Length will vary depending on how you format your paper and how many concepts you choose to incorporate based on your chosen topic/thesis.)
– Directly apply social-psychological concepts, theories, and/or literature to your analysis of the film. This should be the bulk of your paper. You should provide a thoughtful evaluation of how one or more social-psychological phenomena can help us understand the film you are analyzing. You should include your unique insights about the film as it relates to social psychology. You should also draw conclusions and assessments of how social psychological constructs might be expanded based on your analysis of the film. (This should be the vast majority of your paper – and is worth the most points. This should be ~5-6 pages of your paper. Length will vary depending on how you format your paper.)
– Finish with a strong concluding paragraph that clearly explains how you have supported your initial thesis.  (This should be 1 paragraph at the end of your paper. The general theme and tenant of the thesis should, however, be carried throughout the paper).
I want you To do a analysis on the 2019 movie Little Women but Ill add the list of movies you could use on the bottom if you have a different idea.
I can provide you with the Rubric if you need
If necessary I can provide you with Note slides from the class so you have an easier time choosing social psychology concepts to incorporate into the paper.
