1. Write about this anxiety in general and introduce the reader to your struggle. When did it start? How has it affected decisions you’ve made in your life? This doesn’t have to be a grand, sweeping narrative that covers your whole life … it can be you recounting how this anxiety affected you in one particular instance, or about how it affects your daily life in small ways.
2. Write about from where you think this anxiety arose. How is it related to a wider cultural anxiety (like existential concerns—the fear of getting old, of death, of our children having a dangerous future— or sociopolitical concerns —like mistrust of authority due to how said authorities have historically acted or sociocultural concerns —like being accepted, looking attractive, or having wealth)? Why would you have this concern in our culture? What does that say about us as Americans (or people in general)?
3. Finally, reflect on how the internet has affected your anxiety. A positive impact? Negative? Both? And, do you think you’d even have this anxiety if you did not have access to the internet?
