The course content was interesting, and every week was relevant to my life and career. There are a few that stick out though, in my personal life it is the growth mindset, this is something I plan to explore more. While I love trying new things, I often get anxious about going places I’ve never been or doing things alone. Seeing with the mindset assessment that I already learned toward a growth mindset was informative and the Ted Talk, The Power of Believing That You Can Improve by Carol Dweck was inspirational.
In my current career, the content that I have found to be the most helpful is the different listening styles. I am an analytical listener; I like to gather information and keep the conversation rooted in reality but I have made efforts to switch my preferred listening style based on the context of the conversation.
For my future career, the concept that I believe will be most helpful is building high quality connections. These connections are essential for collaborations and long-term partnerships that will be beneficial for career growth.

I’ve been investing time and effort into building and nurturing professional relationships. By using the concepts from Dutton & Worline’s “Four Ways to Create High-Quality Connections at Work” I am building relationships based on trust and respectful engagement. By continuing to maintain these relationships I can access valuable resources that contribute to personal and professional growth.
I have also actively sought out feedback and used that information to reflect on my skills and identify areas of strength that I can build on to improve and move forward in my career.
Most Surprising/Interesting/Unexpected/Memorable Learnings:

The most memorable concept I learned in this course was psychological trust. This concept is fascinating to me, not only in the workplace but also in personal relationships. While I wasn’t aware of the word for it, I realized that I have worked in both psychological safe and unsafe environments and the difference they have on your life is huge. My last job was in a very unsafe environment where you would get screamed at by the CEO if you said the wrong thing or suggested something they didn’t think was the correct way to do something. That company is no longer in business, and I have no doubt the lack of trust stifled innovation and led to poor business decisions that were never questioned due to fear of retaliation.

The concept of psychological trust has influenced me to reflect on my own behavior and communication in the workplace and think about how I can always create an environment where trust is valued, and where people feel safe to express opinions. This also builds on empathy as learned earlier in this course, since empathy and trust together are helpful in creating a psychologically safe workplace.

This course has interesting concepts that caused me to think about my communication style and how I connect with others. I think I have gained perspective on my career and skills that will help me move forward in my desired career path. I have already used insights from this course to build up positive relationships and improve the way I communicate with peers and leadership in my workplace.
