The stage that i choose that spoke must to me is stage 3. in research Erikson says the third stage starts from three and remains until the age of five. Children who have completed the above two stages are more confident and independent. The encouragement given by the parents at this stage can lead them to explore their abilities. and children can form a sense of direction and ambition.
I’m reminded of a time growing up in church and coming from a family full of musicians and singers my i was blessed with the gift to sing. My father would push and encourage me in all that i did when it came to music. at the age of 9 years old i was blessed with the opportunity to lead and be over my church youth choir, along with this came with me teaching song parts to the choir, planning the concert and putting it together, conducting rehearsals and picking out songs and leads. the push that my father gave me made me the leader who i am today. he taught me to never give up, that i got this, keep singing and keep letting God lead you. its because of my father push and direction that i grew i close and strong relationship with God, now here we are years later im now an ordained youth Minister in the lords church and I’m also a Gospel music singer, songwriter and artist all because of the push, direction and leadership my father gave me growing up. my life experience and what i went through in stage 3 definitely matched the book because my father gave me the direction and ambition that i need in life to help me grow up.
According to the Erik Erikson’s theory of psychological development, the cohort of the human lifespan roughly between the ages of 19 and 40 encounters Psychological Stage 6, that being Intimacy vs. Isolation. This psychological stage is characterized by the conflict that is forming intimate and caring relationships between the self and others, and whether or not healthy interpersonal relationships are capably formed. This stage offers a fundamental trial in whether or not an individual succeeds in this conflict; success bearing a fulfilling, socialized life whereby one fits in a structure of interpersonal affection, care, concern, reliability, and interaction, and failure bearing the risk of an individual faltering to a mindset of isolation, loneliness, and all of the psychological ramifications associated with those feelings. As I fall in the age categorization associated with this psychological stage, I do feel some connectivity between my personal life and its description – however, I do express some skepticism, for I feel that this struggle regarding personal connection can accurately be described as parcel to every individual therein every age group. We are a fundamentally social mankind, with our bodies and minds configured to be concerned of those with whom we associate and are surrounded by, and thus I feel that there is a struggle between intimacy and isolation which universally overhangs everyone irrespective of age, and at practically every point in the human lifespan. My personal experience “matches” the book’s description by virtue of my recognition of the social structure as a realistic concern which does command attention and effort, but with the caveat that I firsthand believe that this kind of concern is not constrained to the 19-40 age grouping.
