The thesis statement will be revised to be a “directed thesis statement” meaning that I will assist your learning by providing guidance and structure to the argument. (The argument is your opinion).
Directed Thesis Statement: I feel that “Non-Western Artwork A” is (representative or not representative) of what fine art should be in comparison to the “Western Artwork B”. You fill in the “blanks” with artworks of your choice. (You choose representative or not representative). The phrase “what fine art should be” will be influenced by your learning this semester and will include concepts like: composition (emphasis, unity, balance), subject matter (the person, place or thing that the work is about) and content (the meaning, symbolic or literal). Craftsmanship or control of the medium also enters in.
Keeping in mind that Non-Western Artworks generally support a focus on abstraction and symbolism through cultural belief and Western Artworks generally explore realism and craftsmanship based on cultural belief and influence..
2) Annotated Bibliography: Please attach your annotated bibliography as a Word document or pdf. See the course syllabus for the requirements of (2) book sources (digitized pdf or print), (2) digital sources (websites, articles, interviews), and (2) art image sources – all with proper Chicago Style citation and with a 50-100 word annotation (summary) of each source. For the art image sources provide a formal description of the title, artist, medium and date for each. (See the sample papers for an example of the annotated bibliography)
