Before you get started, it will help to review the Reflection/Research Project Overview (Module 7/8) for a refresher of the overall goals of the research project. Once you have a good understanding of the project as a whole, you should be ready to begin. This is an argumentative research paper – you’ll investigate and propose a topic worth further exploration. In other words, you will try to prove about your issue(s) that you’ve been investigating this term. If your Annotated Bib was an opportunity to present what “they say” about your topic, this is an opportunity to bring everything together with “they say/I say.”
The Reflection/Research Paper will be worth 25% towards your final grade…Topic Analysis Quiz is worth 10% towards your final grade; Annotated Bibliography is worth 20% towards your final grade. You can all appreciate, then, the value of the total Reflection/Research Project to your final grade since it involves so many skill sets—Reflection, Reading Writing, Research!
Topic
You presented your topics for approval in the Topic Analysis Quiz. The research you found for the Annotated Bib was based on that topic and should be the research you use on the final portion of the Reflection/Research Project – the Reflection/Research Paper.
As a reminder, your topic must be about writing/literacy. Topics that are not related to writing/literacy will not be accepted, unless, of course, you have asked and been given permission to pursue a topic of your choosing. Otherwise, as a result, off-topic projects will not be eligible for a grade.
Purpose
Compose a formal, argumentative research essay in which you make specific claims about your topic, explain and define data you have collected for your topic, and support your claims using scholarly research. As you respond, consider the following questions for your audience:
What is the problem? (Define the problem, tell how it resembles other problems)
Why is it a problem? (Illustrate facets of the argument)
Why is this problem worthy of investigation? (Why should you continue your investigation?)
Process

The Reflection/Research Paper
The Reflection/Research Paper is an argumentative third-person essay based on the topic you’ve been exploring this term. You will use the research presented on your Annotated Bibs to support your claims. You must have an effective thesis sentence that indicates your paper’s stance and directs/ guides the development of your body paragraphs. It must be the last sentence of your introductory paragraph!
Reflection/Research Requirements
Two-Three scholarly sources must be clearly used and cited in your text and listed properly on your Works Cited page.
It is not enough to simply have a works cited page!
Your paper must show clear evidence (direct quotes and summaries) of all of your listed sources, and all evidence must include correct in-text citations.
General encyclopedias, like Wikipedia, and other general websites may not be used as sources for this paper.
Research must be of a scholarly, academic nature to satisfy the assignment requirements.
Non-scholarly research must be verified appropriately for use in this assignment as all research is meant to add validity to your argument.
Sources should be from your Annotated Bib; however, it’s okay if you change some of your sources if you find they don’t work for your paper as long as you still have 2-3 scholarly sources.
Works Cited entries should not include any of the summary material from your Annotated Bib.
Make sure to update and fix any errors from your Annotated Bib – don’t lose points for the same issue twice!
Format
750-1000 words (approximately 4+ full pages)
Typed in standard 12 point font, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins.
Do not attempt to play with margins, font size, etc. to make papers appear longer – since I will review your word count, such measures are pointless!
Final draft must follow MLA format.

Document all source material used in the essay, following MLA formatting exactly for in-text citations and works cited entries.
Your essay must clearly include direct quotations, summaries, and paraphrasing from your sources to support your argumentative claims, and all references must be properly cited according to MLA formatting.
Your paper must include a Works Cited page referencing all sources used in your paper…The Works Cited page follows the Research Paper proper. It should be prepared on a separate page..last page of your document. It is not included in your total word or page count.
All sources presented on the Works Cited page must be clearly used and cited in the body of the paper.
Works Cited entries must be in alphabetical order, and must not include summaries from your Annotated Bib.
Include an appropriate title centered on the first line. Do not underline the title or put it in “quotation marks,” italics, or bold.
Write in standard, formal English, avoiding slang and casual language.
Use of the first- or second-person perspectives (“you”) are not appropriate or acceptable in this essay. THAT MEANS THAT YOUR RESEARCH PAPER MUST BE PREPARED AND MAINTAINED IN THIRD PERSON.
YOU MUST HAVE AN EFFECTIVE THESIS SENTENCE . WITHOUT IT, YOUR PAPER WILL NOT BE SUCCESSFUL!
