Your final is to create a presentation using PowerPoint (or a similar program – Prezie, Google Slides, etc.). You are welcome to complete this project either individually or in a group of 2.
If completing the project individually: You are required to cite a minimum of 10 academic sources and have a minimum of 20 slides, not including the cover or reference slide(s).
If completing the project in a group of 2: You are required to cite a minimum of 18 academic sources and have a minimum of 40 slides, not including the cover or reference slide(s).
Your presentation will focus on one topic related to social change and/or social movements of your choice. Here are some broad examples:
Focus on one social issue: choose one social issue and research the various factors/causes that have led to social change related to the social issue, along with any calls or attempts to create a change or solution, or (if applicable) discuss any social movements that have tried to address the social issue. This route may involve multiple related social movements throughout time that have tried to address one social problem. (Ex: multiple social movements have focused on addressing workplace inequalities)
Focus on one social movement: choose one specific social movement and research the various factors that have led to its creation, the goals of the movement, recruitment/participation, tactics, any barriers and successes, etc. This route will likely involve one movement aiming to address multiple social issues (ex: disability rights movement aimed to address inequalities in housing, health care, transportation, workplaces, schools, etc.)
Focus on a cause of social change: choose one cause of social change and research the ways that it has impacted social change throughout history and present day (ex: changes in technology have led to social changes)
Requirements:
Minimum of 20 slides if completing the project individually and a minimum of 40 slides if completing the project as a group of 2, not including the cover slide, any heading/transition slides, and reference slide(s)
Cover slide: title of your presentation. The cover slide does not count toward the slide minimum for this assignment.
Clear introduction: your topic should be clearly stated, introduced, and any helpful introductory/background information on your topic should be provided
Body: this is where you will present your analysis and research on your topic
If completing the project individually: Include a minimum of 5 take-away points for your audience and explain each with evidence/examples from your research
If completing the project in a group of 2: Include a minimum of 8 take-away points for your audience and explain each with evidence/examples from your research
Make a minimum of 2 explicit connections to the course materials
Conclusion: provide a clear conclusion to your presentation
Citations are required to be in APA format
Include a reference slide at the end of your presentation. The reference slide does not count toward the slide minimum for this assignment.
Include either in-text citations or use the endnote function (creates numbers to use as the in-text citation that correspond to the citation number on your reference slide)
If completing the project individually: Explicitly use and cite a minimum of 10 academic sources, where at least 2 sources are required to be from the course content
If completing the project in a group of 2: Explicitly use and cite a minimum of 18 academic sources, where at least 2 sources are required to be from the course content
Keep in mind that this is an online course. So any information you would normally say verbally during a PowerPoint presentation should be more obvious either on the slide or in the notes section for the slide.
