If someone had told me four years ago that I would be pursuing a career in Economics, I would have simply dismissed that notion. However, during my undergraduate studies, I interned with a company called Haitong. There, I worked as a project assistant in the investment department. Initially, leveraging my proficiency in English, I translated and introduced projects to overseas clients. As time went on, my role expanded to include gathering and analyzing data, understanding equity investment processes, and implementing risk control procedures. Through close interaction with the actual operations in the investment field, I realized the importance of Economics in understanding the global business and financial systems. This experience sparked my interest in Economics and motivated me to delve deeper into the field.
Due to my newfound curiosity, I began conducting research and studying to acquire more economic knowledge, both academically and practically. I chose to double major in Information Management and Information Systems. Studying Information Management and Information Systems not only helps me better understand and apply economic knowledge but also provides practical tools, enhancing my data analysis and processing capabilities. These skills are invaluable in Economics research, where handling large data sets and complex models is crucial. Moreover, my strong analytical and mathematical skills enable me to apply economic theories more effectively, including familiarization with analysis and model building.
Additionally, I gained invaluable internship experience in sales and audit departments. During my internship in the sales department, I began to understand the close connection between marketing and economics. Interacting with clients and analyzing the market helped me recognize that market demand is one of the key drivers of economic activity, and that sales strategies are influenced by economic principles such as supply and demand. In my internship in the audit department, I gained a deeper understanding of the relationship between corporate financial management and economic decision-making. The financial analysis during the auditing process taught me how financial data can reflect the actual situation of economic activities and the importance of assessing corporate economic performance.
