April 20, 2024

In this Discussion, you will be writing about one work of art from the Lesson Nine virtual museum visit (Sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago), one work from the Lesson Ten virtual museum visit (Craft at the National Museum of the American Indian), and one architect/architectural style (from the Lesson Twelve video assignments).
You will discuss two works of craft media from this virtual visit.
Paragraph 1 (Intro):  tell us about your experiences visiting the Art Institute of Chicago’s website and the National Museum of the American Indian website.  What did you like about each? Is there anything you disliked about one or both museum websites?  Which did you prefer, and why?
Paragraph 2 (Your chosen sculpture): briefly tell us about one of the sculptures you selected from the Art Institute of Chicago’s website during Lesson Nine.  In your own words, give the basic information (name of the artist, title of the artwork, date or date range when the art was created, the medium or media – be specific and thorough).  Then tell us why you chose this sculpture out of all of your options.  Add a link to the museum’s web page where we can see the work of art.
Paragraph 3 (Work of Craft): briefly tell us about one of the works of craft that you selected from the National Museum of the American Indian website during Lesson Ten.  In your own words, give the basic information (name of the artist if known, culture/country of origin, title of the artwork, date or date range when the art was created, the medium or media – be specific and thorough).  Then tell us why you chose this work of craft media out of all of your options.  Add a link to the museum’s web page where we can see the work of art.
Paragraph 4 (the work that engaged you the most): tell us which of these four works of art you found most interesting and/or inspiring, then tell us why.  Write in some depth as you reflect on your reasons for choosing this three-dimensional work of art to write about in this paragraph.  Then describe the sculpture or work of craft to us using the language of visual literacy – the elements and principles of art that you have learned so far. Finally, tell us which type of analysis you would be most likely to use if you did deeper research on your chosen work of three-dimensional art.
Make sure to include the links to artwork you selected.
Without the links, we cannot view the images and see what the museum staff wrote about them; this means that I would not be able to evaluate your work for accuracy and originality.  For this reason, failing to include links will result in a score of 0 for the assignment.
