This assignment is a playlist paper. Must be related to human, adult, intimate/coupled relationships.
2 -Must be relevant to the topics covered in the course.
3- Must use peer-reviewed, published, empirical research
Peer-reviewed, published – must be from a peer-reviewed academic journal (sources between 2008 – 2023).
Empirical – must have a Methods, Results or Findings, and Discussion section
Must analyze data between variables
Tutorials on how to find appropriate research are linked in eLC
Use the Chat with a Librarian AI at libs.uga.edu OR
Schedule time with a librarian to help you with your search
4- Not blogs/vlogs/TikToks/YouTube, websites, news articles – are not peer-reviewed
5- Specifics for sources
Sources (research) must be within the last 15 years (2008 – 2023)
DO NOT use quotes – paraphrase and use appropriate in-text citation methods. See eLC for resources on how to do this.
DO NOT summarize the study – only paraphrase the results connected to your point.
Select a minimum of 8 concepts from the content across three topics in the course – use your syllabus to identify topics.
– Bolded words in your text are not necessarily concepts. Concepts are specific relationship phenomena/processes to illustrate particular ideas.
– Communication is NOT a concept – it’s too broad. Nonverbal decoding IS a concept related to communication.
– Physical features/attractiveness is NOT a concept. Matching, mere exposure effect, and symmetry are concepts related to attraction.
2. Select ONE song and ONE video (movie/tv) PER concept (8 songs + 8 videos = 16 total).
3. Your playlist of songs and movies/tv needs to demonstrate and be informed by research related to class content (see example below on how to do both below).
4. The main objective of this paper is to support your ideas with empirical research. This means:
– you should make a point for each concept or group of concepts (e.g. movies are poor representation of couples therapy… related to your movie choices and empirical research on the process of couple therapy (**not individual or family therapy!))
– your points should always be supported by your literature – its ok to present contradictory literature if that is whats out there!
– your sources should be relevant to your song/movie illustration of the concept. (e.g. you pick a Taylor Swift song, your source should not investigate Ugandan widows)
5. You will submit a paper (~12 DS pages w/o title or refs) that includes the following:
– An introduction (~ .5 – 1 page), body paragraphs (at least two per concept – 1 re: song and 1 re: movie, and conclusion (~.5 – 1 page).
– Body paragraphs (~10 pages w/o title or refs) should include:
o a description of the concept being demonstrated
o Information relevant to the research that links it to how it’s demonstrated in the song/movie (at least ONE research citation per concept)
o In-text citations for statements of facts from your sources.
