1. Historical context: Identify the who, what, when, and where of your topic. Include background for individuals, groups, events, etc. that you mention in your paper.
2. Thesis: Include a specific and argumentative thesis statement in your introduction (and use topic sentences to connect back to the thesis in your body paragraphs).
3. Scholarly Debate: Identify how your approach compares to the approaches by other historians (at least three) to your topic (or similar topic). Identify/explain the importance of your topic.
4. Evidence: Include primary source evidence that supports your thesis. Use at least five primary sources (from at least two different categories of sources). Provide citations. These may, for the draft, be in-text or incomplete, but should identify to the readers where the information comes from. Do your best, in this draft, to synthesize your evidence (use two or more sources for each main point).
5. Organization: Include an introduction, and body paragraphs with topic sentences that signal back to your thesis and forward to your main point. Include at least two main points that support your thesis. You do not need to include a conclusion.
6. Bibliography: Include an updated bibliography.
7. Format: Please double-space.
