The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky

This is an important paper no plagarism and no using chatgpt
We have seen a resurgence of book banning in the United States, especially in the Southern states of
Florida, Texas, and Virginia. One of our major scholarly organizations, the Northeast Modern Language
Association, has issued a strongly worded statement against book banning that in part argues that it goes
against the First Amendment to our Constitution and that it presents a clear and present danger to
education, democracy, and inclusion in this country. In fact, DEISJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social
Justice) education has been banned in Florida even though it is not defined in the law banning it, and
thus becomes another of many vaguely conceived ideas that can be made to include anything which a
given auditor disagrees. We’ve had a history of these movements before (see the infamous Espionage
Act issued during World War I), and we have overcome them, and we will again!
For your final project, I want you to examine the issue of book banning closely by examining one book
from the list of Banned & Challenged Books | Advocacy, Legislation & Issues (ala.org) that is not assigned
for this course this semester. I want you to explore why it is banned and then develop a sophisticated
and scholarly argument that analyzes this book and argues against it banning.
Now for more details/parameters of the project:
1. The project must be typed, double-spaced, in MLA format and printed single-sided. The length
of the project is between 3500- and 4000-words, which include the Works Cited list with in-text
citations.
2. Please also include at least three substantive footnotes.
3. You will need a minimum of ten secondary sources, seven of which must be scholarly and juried,
and accessed through MLA IB or Project Muse. These seven scholarly sources must include both
books and articles (for an article to count as one of these seven, it must be over 10 pages), and
be no earlier than 15 years ago. Note, however, that this is a minimum number of sources.
4. In addition to the ten sources above, you must use Toril Moi’s Revolution of the Ordinary:
Literary Studies after Wittgenstein, Austin, and Cavell in a significant way in your final project.
5. Your proposal for the project to me is due via email on or before the weekend of April 6th/7th.
Please submit it to me so that I can help you formulate and research the project you are
planning. I am also available during office hours or by appointment to read drafts (I do not look
at drafts online). I look forward to our work together on this essay!!
