You will be presenting during class at an assigned time. Each student will have 10 minutes to present. You should leave 2-3 minutes for questions at the end of your presentation, meaning that you should be prepared to give your presentation in 7-8 minutes and then answer questions for 2-3 minutes.
For the technical presentation, you should assume that everyone attending the presentation has taken classes like PSY 400/401 and/or that they have conducted research in the past. Your presentation should reflect that your audience will have this background.
In a technical presentation you should explain the relevant theories and concepts. While you should assume the audience has technical skills and research backgrounds, you cannot assume that they all have experience with your substantive area (e.g., the specific topic your thesis is on).
The technical presentation should include specific details about how you would conduct your study and why you designed it the way you did. You should be using language we learned in this class. You should be referring to the literature specifically (using authors’ names and dates).
Your technical presentation should describe the statistics you would use and what you expect to find specifically using statistical language (e.g., name of the statistical tests and how you expect them to turn out).
Your technical presentation should connect your anticipated findings back to the literature, discuss implications (for the field, public, policy, etc.) and should cover any important limitations or considerations the audience should be aware of.
