Select three of the ten references from the Topic 2 “APA Reference List Assignment.” Create an annotated bibliography for each of the three references (It is recommended to choose 3 scholarly journal articles to annotate from your Topic 2 reference list. If you need to locate additional journal articles, please feel free to do so).
Each annotation must have 150-200 words, making a total of 450-600 words for the entire assignment. Each annotation should include the following elements:
APA style reference of the article being annotated
A paraphrased summary of the article (See note on paraphrasing below.)
An assessment of why it is a scholarly reference
A reflection on how it is applicable to your research
Note: Go to the Student Success Center and search key words “Preparing Annotated Bibliographies” for help with this assignment.
Note on Step 2 Paraphrasing: Paraphrasing the ideas of others is a requirement in academic writing and graduate study. Paraphrasing is using your own words to restate ideas or information from source material. As you write each annotation use the following paraphrasing guidelines.
There are three main steps to paraphrasing:
Identify the original idea(s) in the article.
Identify general points regarding the idea(s).
Summarize the general points of the article in your own words.
Follow the steps above for all three articles you chose.
Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.
Article Summary: Please try to paraphrase the article/direct quotes into your own words in this assignment. In-text citations are required.
In a summary, only reference the authors of the article.
This assignment must be submitted into the LopesWrite drop-box before final submission.
There is a rubric for this assignment, and it is located within the assignment drop-box. There is a sample of a summary attached below.
Do NOT copy and paste material directly from the article into your essay. This includes copying and pasting material and then changing a few words as an attempt at paraphrasing.
Do NOT use long quotes in this article summary. I would greatly prefer that you focus on summarizing the main concepts from the essay in your own words to show your full understanding of the concepts. The concept is that you are condensing larger amounts of information into a concise form.
Do NOT use first person pronouns or phrases in your writing. Instead of saying, “I think that the authors created a valid study,” you could simply say, “The authors created a valid study.” Your direct statements will show what you think, feel, and believe.
Do NOT get off track or make personal reflections about online education in general.
Do NOT reference the references used in the article (such as the articles by Beaudoin, Klemm, and Swan) if you have not read them yourself.
Do NOT title your essay, since it is the title of the published article that you read. Instead, you can simply use the title “Article Summary” for this task.
You have full and free access to the article through the GCU library too. It’s good practice for finding articles! Please keep in mind that you can always try “Ask a Librarian” when you have questions about research in our library.

Annotated Bibliography
Please be sure to study the sample provided. An annotated bibliography is a graduate school assignment meant to be useful to the student, and to be checked by an instructor. The audience for the assignment is just you and me. Please keep in mind, you are not evaluating a source to recommend to strangers. You are making objective observations that will help you with future research. You are required to submit your annotated bibliography to LopesWrite.Remember to use APA format,7th edition for students.
