This week we focus on Global Awareness. The Sociological Imagination assignment you submit this week should illustrate and describe the topic of Global Awareness.
Some ideas for this week′s picture: Do you have any pictures taken in another country? Do you have any pictures of something happening in a culture that is not your own? Do you have a picture that shows differences in social class? Do you have any pictures of someone who has immigrated to the U.S. (If the person in picture could be could be identified, be sure to get their permission to use their photograph!)? These are the types of pictures that would be suitable for this week′s Sociological Imagination assignment.
If you have other ideas, but aren′t sure that you are on the right track, please ask your instructor.
Why is this assignment important?
This assignment is important because it is designed to help you connect theory with practical life, and to helps you “see” what is studied in an introductory course in sociology is relevant and has a practical application to the life you lead.
How will this assignment help me in my future career?
Among the purposes of higher education is to open students’ minds and expose students to new and different ideas, examine their own long-held beliefs, challenge their assumptions, and establish their personal worth. Students who are able to integrate new knowledge into what they already know demonstrate intellectual curiosity.
