• While planning your reflective essay, you are encouraged (but not required) to
consider one or more of the follow questions.
These questions are only meant to be
suggestions, providing a roadmap for your reflection on the book of your choice.
You can certainly ask your own question(s).
a) What is politics?
b) What do we mean by “political”?
c) How does politics impinge on people’s everyday life?
Personal requirements:
– Cite book directly (e.g. on page xx )
– If events are to be mentioned you have to describe them clearly
– The book should be the main focus of the essay
– Refer to some concepts mentioned in the syllabus/readings
– Be critical (Come up with alternate arguments)
– Be clear and persuasive
– Include some of these learning outcomes in the essay
1. Appraise the basic analytical approaches in political science and develop the ability to
analyze political events in various contexts.
2. Acquire basic knowledge on the four primary issue areas in contemporary political
science, namely: political economy, democracy theory, political institution and civil
society (including contentious politics and identity politics).
3. Develop the ability in general critical thinking and basic skills in academic writing.
4. Develop the ability in critically analyzing and commenting on contemporary political
events.
