Reflection is a mode of inquiry: a deliberate way of systematically recalling writing experiences to reframe the current writing situation” that also “helps writers relocate the knowledge and practices acquired from one writing site to another” (78).
The reflective cover letter for Project 2 has two parts:
Part 1: discusses your writing process, including how peer and instructor feedback played into revision decisions and giving specific examples of what you changed throughout the process
Part 2: discusses, with specific examples from your writing and process, how this project has helped you progress towards the following Student Learning Outcomes for this class: (SLO 2) Engage in responsible, systematic research practices informed by critical reading and rhetorical analysis, including locating and evaluating a range of materials and (SLO 3) Ethically synthesize and integrate the ideas of others using an appropriate citation style. (note: the current samples don’t include Part 2, so keep that in mind when using the samples as a model.)
Begin mapping out your reflective cover letter by “systematically recalling writing experiences” throughout the sequence and before that have informed your work on Project 2. Assemble them in a document and upload them here. Here is some guidance on collecting examples for this submission–you’re encouraged to copy/paste quotes from your own writing and written feedback you received:
Specific examples from your writing that illustrate your growth;
Feedback from peers and your instructor that you found helpful (or not);
Specific examples of what you changed during your process, such as before/after quotes, descriptions of how you responded to feedback;
Specific examples of how Project 2 has helped you progressed towards SLOs 2 and 3 (listed above) – for instance, to illustrate your progression towards SLO 2, you might pull a quote from one of your submissions for Writing Tasks 2-3 to 2-7. To illustrate your progression towards SLO 3, you might quote an instance where you integrated a source particularly well in your draft.
Submission
For this assignment, you list at least 4 examples that you might included in your final cover letter. They do not need to be formal and developed at this point–this is more for you to draw on as you work on your reflective letter. Submit your assignment as a .doc or .docx file.
