Child Welfare Issue Critical Analysis:
Social work students will select a child
welfare issue and conduct a critical analysis of that issue in a 5 to 6-page
essay in 12-point, double-spaced, Times New Roman font and utilize an APA 7 format throughout.
Students are encouraged to pose a question about child welfare:
Question topic: What are the impacts of parental substance abuse on children’s total
safety, stability, and emotional well-being?
Answer that question using their own (personable) critical
thinking and sources from course materials, academic literature, or grey
literature (e.g., government reports).
Students are expected to cite a minimum of
six sources, one of which can be the textbook:

At least four of these should be from Canadian
academic or Canadian grey literature (Canadian government reports). The student
should aim for a comprehensive analysis of the question; for example, the
analysis might include an articulation of the question that the paper will
explore, some of the background to that question, a potential answer to that
question (or a handful of potential answers) supported by critical thinking and
evidence from literature, and a brief exploration of that answer/those answers
(e.g., strengths, challenges, opportunities, threats etc.).
Under no circumstances may AI be utilized.
This will result in a zero percent grade and be reported to the dean of the
university and the student’s program. In all interactions, students should act
in accordance with the Social Work Code of Ethics (Ontario Association of
Social Workers and Social Service Workers).
Please remember to use in-text citations
throughout your paper.
Please, please write in Canadian English! I don’t usually use very big words; I typically write at a college level. If you could please match that, note that it is for a third-year social work course, and the rules around not using AI or Grammarly are very strict.
Please include these sources I have found to use:
