Annotated Bibliography
The purpose of this assignment is to give you an opportunity to define and compare two contemporary teaching frameworks: differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching as they relate to your specific grade-level and/or content. Six scholarly articles (from peer-reviewed journals) should be located and read, and then an APA formatted annotated bibliography will be constructed. You can frame this project around the following three questions: What is differentiated instruction? What is culturally responsive pedagogy? In what ways does each of these serve the other? You also can be more specific in researching answers to a specific question of your own, such as about your content area, as long as you tie it to differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching.
Do include a cover page; you do not need an abstract or a reference list. Follow APA guidelines for formatting headings.
Outline:
Section 1: Introduction: In about one double-spaced page, set the stage for the following research exercise. What questions led your search, where did you look for articles, what is the significance of your hunt, etc.
Section 2: Annotations: Scholarly Articles on Differentiated Instruction and Culturally Responsive Teaching
This section should contain at least six APA formatted annotations, one for each article that you choose to read and summarize on differentiated instruction and culturally responsive teaching. Each annotation should begin with an APA formatted reference list entry of the selection. Following this should be 3-6 sentences in which you summarize the author’s or authors’ main point(s) and comment on the usefulness or relevance of this source for your research. List your sources alphabetically. The entire paper should be double spaced, but no section(s) should be double-double spaced. Do not number your entries. See resources in D2L for additional formatting information.
Section 3; Discussion (you can title section this anything logical that you like).  This should be a 2-3 page APA formatted paper in which you explore the following:
a.       Differentiated Instruction Summary & Analysis/Critique
b.       Culturally Responsive Teaching Summary & Analysis/Critique
c.       Synthesis: How do these frameworks serve each other? (asked another way: How  does differentiating instruction help teachers accomplish culturally responsive teaching, and how does teaching in culturally responsive ways help to differentiate instruction?)
