Student post: Hope all is well everyone! The Civil War was nothing less than sheer brutality in the sense of how many lives were lost, as well as for the reasons why it began in the first place. This gruesome war lasted for roughly 4 years. Numerous reasons factored into the result of the war. A few examples of said reasons include variations of culture values, variations of economic polices, and the biggest factor, the abolishment of slavery. Both the North as well as the South had their own clear visions for the future of the United states, even if violence was deemed necessary. The Southerners full heartedly believed that African Americans were born to fall beneath those who were white. Especially those who were plantation owners, as was shown within the lecture. Amongst the other “justifications” which the Southerners provided resided through pseudo-science practices which speak about the evolution between those who were black and those who were European. All while the Northerners fought for the civil rights. This was backed up by the Northerners implementing religion to deem slavery as a moral sin.
As the Northerners fought against slavery, this then led to an economic instability. The Southerners were then enraged as the Norths economic status increased as the Southerners decreased. The Northerners shifted into an industrial space meanwhile the Southerners were stuck as an agricultural space. There was no advancement in any sections in the South as there were in the North. This was another major push factor which led to the Civil War. The Southerners also took a hit in their soil which further lessened their agriculture push leading the Southerners into a permeant coffin.
Many factors within the Northerners cultural beliefs and and Southerners cultural beliefs were present as well. The North was more of an industrialized society, meanwhile the Southerners laid their beliefs in agriculture. Living situations between both the Northerners and Southerners were different. As the Southerners often lived in farms and plantations as the Northerners lived in urban areas. Other aspects of life such as education, religious practices, social practices, and variations of political status, also contributed towards the Civil war.
