Introduction: Introduce the broad idea of your essay, but don’t go too deeply into specifics. Conclude with a 1-2 sentence thesis statement introducing the claim/ argument that you will be investigating in your test.
Summary of Article 1(Body Paragraph): A 4-5 sentence paragraph providing a simple summary of each of the two articles. This summary should include the issue the article is addressing, where the author stands on the issue, and, if applicable, what viewpoint or argument they are opposing or challenging. Must include a key quote from the text.

Comparison & Analysis (Body Paragraph): Now that you have presented the two articles, compare them. Do not simply repeat the authors’ positions or state the obvious – go deeper. What common ground do the authors agree on? In what ways do they disagree? Which author raises a fundamentally stronger argument and why?
Synthesis (Body Paragraph): This is where you present your argument. What do you believe about the subject? How do you personally relate to the articles you’ve analyzed – do you agree with one author, both, or neither? What would you add to the argument that both authors have perhaps failed to consider?
Conclusion: Finalize your argument. Reflect on the insight you have gained or provided your reader through your essay. Return to your thesis statement/claim (in similar, but not identical wording) and review the evidence you used to prove your claim.
