What does it mean to provide a multidimensional approach?
A multidimensional approach is one of the most effective ways to care for a cancer patient. As the name implies, multidimensional care is comprised of several different aspects and pieces. In this case, multidimensional care is comprised of psychosocial, spiritual, and physical approaches (Schultz, 2024). Cancer is a complex and intricate disease that needs to be handled with the utmost care, and several resources need to be utilized. It is important to consider the complexity of the disease and how it impacts the patient in many different capacities.
What are some examples of how the care team can meet the patient’s and the family’s needs?
When a cancer diagnosis occurs, the care team must take several measures to meet the patient’s and their family’s needs accordingly. It is vital to take a personal approach and place an emphasis on creating a healing environment for the patient (Schultz, 2024). The care team can ask the patient if they have any spiritual or religious beliefs and ask about a support system. Different treatment options should be discussed, as well as the side effects and possible outcomes of each treatment type.
Who are the members of the care team, and how are they involved in providing multidimensional care?
After a cancer diagnosis, a multidisciplinary team should be put in place to provide the utmost care for the patient and their family. Ideally, you would want the primary nurse, an oncologist, a radiologist, a dietician, emotional support, spiritual support (if desired), a primary care physician, and potentially speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy. Each of these professionals has a different skill set and can tackle varying aspects of the disease while providing specialized care.
