Interpersonal Communication ~ Comm 351
Interpersonal Research Proposal
100 points
Goals
Create a literature review on an interpersonal communication content area.
Develop reading, writing, and library research skills.
Requirements
Develop a research proposal on a topic in the field of interpersonal communication. Writing the on the same topic that you used for the annotated bibliography assignment is recommended. The research proposal is to review literature on the topic and to include the formal development of 3 hypotheses and or 3 research questions (3 combined). This includes a logical written justification for each hypothesis or research question. The justification explains the potential value of seeking answers to the research questions or hypotheses. Research questions are descriptive; hypotheses are predictive. The assignment does not include data collection.
When it comes to developing research questions or hypotheses, it would be useful to identify gaps in the research literature (something not covered), an attempt to resolve contradictions (conflicting findings of articles reviewed), or methodological issues (measurement, procedures or samples). Rationale supporting the research questions or hypotheses should fall within the ethical boundaries of social science research.
More specific assignment requirements include the citation of 10 or more academic journal articles, which can include the 5 articles from the annotated bibliography assignment (all 10 must be empirical academic research journal articles; no books, conference papers, or theoretical essays). At least 3 of your sources must have been published within the last 5 years. All 10 sources should be cited within the text of the paper. Do not cite a source unless you have read the article. Submit the paper in APA or MLA style sheet. The paper should be 1500-2000 words in length (excluding reference section). Include a title page which identifies the title of your proposal, your name, and the name of your institution (Saginaw Valley State University) as well as a complete reference page that provides full citation information for all 10 articles. The assignment should be submitted on Canvas and have a Turn-it-in redundancy score below 20%.
