Please keep in mind that there is no right or wrong answer to the question outlined below. Nonetheless, you will be expected to provide a sound rationale to support the position advanced in your essay. In preparing your response, you should draw upon what you have learned throughout the semester from the course readings, lectures and your own research. You will be assessed, in part, on the basis of how you have chosen to interpret the question and incorporate different elements of what we have learned over the past 12 weeks. Your grade will also be affected by the quality of your written work (spelling, grammar and punctuation). The end of the semester is fast approaching and you are talking with a group of your friends when one of them asks you what fourth-year political science seminar you are taking. You tell the group that you are completing a course on public sector leadership. Another friend in the group chimes in by saying, “What is public sector leadership? I am completing the B.Comm. degree in Business and I took HROB*2010 Foundations of Leadership (Calendar Course Description: Using an integrated approach to studying leadership, this foundation course covers history, evolving theories, models, and research both from a theoretical point of view and practical application). Would this not essentially be the same course? What, if anything, would necessitate and justify the Department of Political Science teaching a course on leadership?” Another friend speaks up to contribute to the conversation. “Just the other day, I read a transcript of a conversation from 2012 with Dr. Barbara Kellerman, the Founding Executive Director of the Kennedy School Centre for Public Leadership at Harvard University, and she said that ‘I have become increasingly persuaded that leadership in one sector is much more similar to, than different from, leadership in other sectors.
