PROMPT: Choose a critical passage, two or three related passages, or a broader subject that can be specifically identified in Scripture. Analyze the passage(s). Answer questions about the passages. Some example questions follow. YOU ARE NOT EXPECTED TO ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS. These are examples.
What is the significance of the passage(s)?
Why were the important to the Israelites? Has that changed now?
What do these passages tell us God?
What do we learn about Christ?
What do we learn about salvation history?
What do we learn about God’s role in our lives?
Guidelines for writing the paper:
The Research Paper must be typed, double-spaced. It must be 5 pages in length. It can be longer if you wish but avoid going beyond 10 pages.
Please type this paper in 12-point Times New Roman, double-spaced, with reasonable margins.
Please keep in mind that this is both a research paper and a Scripture paper. You should be engaging the text directly and using multiple sources to build your paper.
This is a research paper. Therefore, you must have references in your paper to demonstrate where your ideas came from. Any assertion you make that is not just an opinion needs a reference to back it up.
You must use footnotes or endnotes for your final paper! See the footnote reference below.
You also must have a bibliography.
The number of sources you use is up to you. For a paper of this length, you should be able to come up with at least four sources other than the Bible, but that would be a minimum.
Avoid all sources that you grabbed from just a Google search. These articles and webpages can help you understand your text (and you can include them in your bibliography) but they are not academic sources.
Academic journals are great; use the academic databases available in the library! Note many scholarly articles on biblical studies, however, are going to be “deeper” than you might be able to follow.
Your paper must have a thesis statement! This is a statement, within the first paragraph (and on the first page), that plainly tells me both what your topic is and what your “take” on that topic will be.
If you do not know how to do footnotes and bibliography, please consult the following website: http://www.press.uchicago.edu/books/turabian/turabian_citationguide.html
Use the Notes and Bibliography style not the Author-Date style
