April 11, 2024

The third and final assessment requires you to answer two questions (up to 750 words for each) based on a case study of a prisoner who is soon to be released back into the community. Your task is to make an informed assessment using the supporting documentation to identify and evidence risk – factors and protective factors for the prisoner.
You are being assessed on your critical understanding of the influences and experiences of the prisoner in their journey through the criminal justice system; on your analysis of the risk factors which could lead them towards further offending; on your insight into how identified protective factors could lead them away from offending; and your knowledge of the barriers and challenges that exist in the current system for ‘offenders’ trying to resettle and reintegrate into society after
release.
You will be provided with four documents in which to draw information, all of which will be released on Monday 18th March 2024 at 9am. These documents, when combined, will detail the prisoner’s offence history, behaviour in custody, their progress and achievements in custody, and some unidentified criminogenic needs and risk factors.
These will include:
an OASys report
a Police National Computer (PNC) file
Nomis case notes
a clinical interview transcript conducted for a Programmes Needs Assessment (PNA)
You will be expected to use citations/references in your answers to the questions, drawing on theory that underpins policy and practice, and to refer back to the supporting documentation in order to substantiate your analysis with evidence. Given the limited wordcount, you are strongly advised against the use of direct quotations!
