*Must know enough information about HBO’s “Succession” to write this paper*
*Minimum of 50 footnotes, please*
Below, I have attached 5 pages beginning the paper, as well as comments from my professor. Please change the writing as necessary with regards to her comments. Use those 5 pages to begin the paper, please.
Instructions: Seminar paper discussing how the law is portrayed and used throughout the plot of Succession, specifically discussing corporate governance and ethical dilemmas. Please use examples in the show to discuss these topics.
Thesis (Feel free to change): This paper explores the intricate
dynamics of corporate governance and ethical decision-making within media
conglomerates, as exemplified by HBO’s ‘Succession’. It argues that the series
not only dramatizes the power struggles and interpersonal conflicts inherent in
a family-run global media empire but also serves as a critical lens through
which to examine real-world legal and ethical issues. These include the
challenges of fiduciary duties, succession planning, tort liabilities, and
corporate responsibility in the face of personal ambition and familial loyalty.
By analyzing key plot points and character developments in ‘Succession’, the
paper seeks to shed light on how legal frameworks are tested and sometimes
bypassed in the high-stakes environment of media corporations, offering
insights into the necessity for robust legal structures and ethical standards
in the corporate world.
PAPER REQUIREMENTS:
Final Paper – a 15-20
page paper of publishable quality with a minimum of 50 footnotes.
·
Follow Blue Book style for citations as if
you are writing a law review article. This is not the same Blue Book
style that you used for briefs or memos. (For a Quick Guide on how to cite in
your papers, look at the inside front cover of the Blue Book.)
·
Please use FOOTNOTES (and not endnotes).  Your footnotes are included in the page count.  (This does not necessarily mean 50 different
sources; you might have ten sources and you cite to each one five times).
·
Use any reasonable font (Times New Roman 12
point is very common). Double-space your paper. Use reasonable margins. (Your
professor can always tell when someone tries to make a short paper look longer
by sneaking in extra-big margins.)
·
Generally, follow any reasonable format you like.  See the two one the sample student papers and
the required reading articles posted on Canvas for ideas on structure. (So, for
example – include page numbers at the bottom of each page, use Headings where
appropriate, etc.)
