Here is the instruction for the assignment:
Consider your research interests or anything you care about. Design a research question to test and conduct a test of association between two variables. Consider what types of variables tests of association work with (hint: categorical).
In a discussion format, describe your research question (RQ). This will include:
RQ being investigated in question form
Description of variables (you don’t have to use any real data – make the variables up, but ground them in reality, e.g., “we used the XYZ measure to determine whether students were in a low, moderate or high category of anticipated performance…”)
Why a a test of association is necessary for this research question State your null and alternative hypotheses in two different ways
In terms of your RQ (in sentence form) and
in statistical notation
Now, conduct the hypothesis test:
Invent a test statistic yourself out of thin air. .5 or 72 or whatever.
Identify a critical value/pvalue/confidence interval that guides what decision will be made in the test.
Use these two pieces of information to state your conclusion (related to the hypothesis and the RQ).
Write a paragraph about what the implications of this result are to your field/area of interest in a super practical and accessible way.
The APAstyle examples in the book provide excellent guidance as you work to improve your professional writing style. However, keep in mind that the examples often report redundant analyses as well as analyses that are not necessarily aligned with the course assignment. Redundancy is useful for learning and you are welcome to go beyond the scope of the assignment, however, the report you submit for grading should be tailored to the task and the APAstyle example from the book.
