Assignment 2: Create the Digital Innovations Infographic
Each student will create an Infographic based on the Information/Media Analysis paper topic using PiktochartLinks to an external site. or CanvaLinks to an external site., a free web-based tool for creating infographics.
The digital Infographic is to be completed and submitted to this Canvas Assignment no later than Wednesday, April 17th @ 11:59pm. Please attach the image file of the infographic in two places 1) Assignment and 2) Peer Review & Showcase Discussion.
Links will not be graded and will receive deductions. The digital Infographic is worth 20% of the overall project. This assignment will be graded based on the Infographic Rubrics. Refer to the topics listed below for additional information and instructions to complete this stage.
Create Infographic:
Each student will create an infographic based on the Information/Media Analysis Paper. The Infographic visually organizes, presents, and explains data that has been gathered by a formal research organization, in a way that will be clear and meaningful to a selected target audience. It should be informative and tell a story from beginning to end. Its design, in terms of text, images/illustrations, use of theme, background, color, fonts, icons, shapes, borders, etc. should attract the target audience as supports the message. It should include at least 5 reliable sources.
Students will use Piktochart Links to an external site.or CanvaLinks to an external site. (free web-based tools for creating infographics) to create the project. (NOTE: This must be an original infographic created specifically for this class focused on a topic of interest related to the course The Structure of Information; students may not re-use or adapt one that they may be creating for another class)
FAQs and Tips
Do I need readings from Class? You are not required to integrate a topic from the course. You should however use the readings, especially those on visualizing data, as you develop present your research.
What about citations? Citations can be handled in a variety of ways. You can decide to use an abbreviated form of APA citations within the Infographic itself and then list out the sources on the bottom. As long as I am able to find where the key statistics and research are coming from, it will work for me.
How long should it be? It can vary based on how much substance in each section. At the very least 5 sections in Pikochart.
Do I have to use Piktochart? No, if you have graphic design skills and want to exercise them for this assignment, please feel free!
How to I submit it? When it comes time for submission, please DO NOT send me a link. I will not be able to grade links so please be sure you are attaching a pdf, jpg or png file.
