Analysis: Good analysis looks at the component parts of a text, how and why they are put together that way, and whether important ideas and information are missing that would change the outcome. It exposes the possible significance of a text that would not be obvious by mere summary. It explains the reasons why an author held certain views and not just what the beliefs he/she held are.
Research/Outside Sources: Find in-depth information by experts (when doing social scientific research, I especially recommend articles as opposed to books). While you can add up-to-the-minute breaking news if pertinent, it cannot take the place of a carefully researched studies documented in a journal article.
