For this assignment you will be designing a battery pack and performing battery pack modeling and necessary circuitry
to support the power supply to an automotive bulb and a heating element.
Task 1: Powering the load using a 15 V battery pack (25 points)
Assume that you are given an ideal 15 V battery pack (ideal independent voltage source) to power the following loads,
Load information:
Heating element information:
• Rated voltage: 12 𝑉
• Rated power: 12 𝑊
Bulb information:
• Rated voltage: 12 𝑉
• Rated power: 15 𝑊
Design the necessary circuit to supply these loads from the 15 V source without violating the voltage and power
requirements of both the loads.
Task 2: Building the battery pack (25 points)
For this task you will be designing the 15 V battery pack to support the aforementioned loads for 10-hour operation
on single charge. Explain clearly how the battery pack is built to meet the requirements of the appliance operation.
You will be using the following cell to build the pack.
Cell information:
• Cell voltage: 1.5 𝑉
• Cell capacity: 2000 𝑚𝐴ℎ
• Cell chemistry: 𝑁𝑖 − 𝑀𝐻
Task 3: Thevenin modeling of the battery pack (50 points)
For this part you must perform testing on 1.5 V cell (given to you in the lab) to estimate its internal resistance. The
lab sessions mentioned below will be allotted to conduct necessary experiments. The expected outcome from this task
is a Thevenin equivalent circuit diagram for the 15 V battery pack built using these 1.5 V cells.
