I have attatched both of my papers, (Historical Research proposal and primary and secondary resourses assignment) that must be used for this assignment.
Topic for this paper: Reconstruction
Dynamics in Post-Civil War Texas
GUIDELINES for the Rough Draft: (FORMAL WRITING ASSIGMENT)
This is a continuation of the subject matter that you presented in your Historical Research Proposal, Introduction, and Primary & Secondary Sources assignment.  Use scholarly, academic sources that you have collected and develop and discussion and narrative related to the historical research question that you have presented.  Remember that it is okay to adjust and adapt your historical research question, especially due to your findings and sources gathered.  This is a Rough Draft, so it does not have to be finished and/or prefect.  Think of it as developing the framework of your subject matter.
Criteria:
Minimum 1,000 words- (It is perfectly acceptable to write more)   That is roughly 3/3.5 pages (That does not include your Name, header, cover page, or Bibliography)
Double-spaced, 12-point font, (preferably Times New Roman).
You must provide proper citations (Footnotes & Bibliography) using Chicago Writing Style.
*(See Videos in Students Resource Modules for help formatting citations in Word or Google Doc)*
Do NOT use first/third person pronouns; Me, My, or I/ We, or Our
Do NOT use contractions: I’ve, don’t, doesn’t, etc.
Introduction:
You should have an Introduction in which you state your research question/ topic and develop your own thesis or argument based on your research.
(Answer/ address these without using personal pronouns)
Provide a strong central thesis or question that you are attempting to answer.
Layout how you are going to present your information in the paper.
Main Body:
(Answer/ address these without using personal pronouns)
Analyze your sources
Summarize your findings
Describe what your focus was and what you found. (Remember to do not use I)
Discuss your sources and how you used them. *NOTE: This does not mean summarize each source.
Conclusion:
(Answer/ address these without using personal pronouns)
For a Rough Draft your conclusion does not have to be fully developed.  If anything, it should serve as a point of reflections for what you still have to incorporate or address in your paper.
Re-evaluate your presentation and re-address your argument.  Did you successfully prove what you presented?
Where or how you could improve your research?  Are there other sources you would like to address that you did not have access to? Or, other aspects that you think would be valuable to this discussion?
Bibliography:
You should have a total 8 sources (At least 4 primary and 4 secondary)
Divide your Bibliography into Primary and Secondary Sources sections (You do not need the descriptions of the sources for each source just the citation)
Do Not list, use, or cite tertiary sources or unverifiable sources, i.e. History.com, Wikipedia, Khan Academy, Encyclopedia Britannica.
