From the title of this option, I think you have guessed the content of it. Right? If you choose this option, then you need to create a multimodal book (text + pictures). The goal of the book is to introduce rhetorical theories, terms, and important figures (Rhetoricians) to students. These are some of the theories we covered in this course: digital rhetoric, feminist rhetoric, cultural rhetoric, and ancient rhetoric, among others. These are some terms we covered: ethos, pathos, logos, rhetor, exigence, identification, evidence, reasoning, Aristotle’s types of speech, syllogism, topoi, enthymemes, fallacies, motives, democracy, identification, disidentification, interactivity, intertextuality, genre, technorehtoric, new media, digital literacy, and others. These are some rhetoricians we studied something for: Aristotle, Plato, Socrates, Gorgias, Cicero, Quintilian, Sicilians (Sophists), Kenneth Burke, George Kennedy, Lloyd Bitzer, Douglas Ehninger, Steven Mailloux, among others.
You don’t have to limit yourself to these theories, terms, and rhetoricians. You can add more theories, terms, and figures we did not cover this semester. For each theory, term, or a figure, you need to do the following: The name of the theory/term/figure, a clear as-simple-as-possible definition or introduction (you can use your own words or you can quote with citation), an example or more, if applicable, and a picture/infographic/diagram that helps students understand the theory or the term. These mentioned parts are required, but if you want to add something else, you can definitely do that.
Below are other requirements:
Font Size: 12 to 14 points.
Font type: Book Antique or Georgia.
Picture size: should not exceed 2.5″ x 2.5″ unless really needed
Spacing: one and a half.
Title: Pick any title you want for the book. Be creative! Imagine you are authoring a real book/textbook.
Audience: Freshmen or high school students who are interested in taking an introduction to rhetorical theory and practice course.
Table of content. Your book should include a table of content.
Chapters: Three chapters. One for theories, one for terms, and one for figures. Some chapters can be longer than others.
Page numbers: locate page numbers in the bottom center or top-right corner.
Sources: Make sure you include a list of all sources you used at the end of the book.
Design Software: To create this book, you can use Microsoft word, PowerPoint, or any available book design software out there.
Style guide: APA or MLA for the content, not design. You can freely design your book.
Submission format: Please submit your book in .pdf format only.
Page requirements: Ranges from 15 to 30 Pages, but not less than 15 pages of content (excluding cover page, content table, and sources).
Cover page: Your book should include a book cover. Design one yourself if you can. The cover page should include your name as the author. Below are three real examples:
