For this assignment, you will identify at least two possible assessments for the unit you are designing. These could range from projects and papers to speeches and presentations. They could encompass class discussions or exit tickets, student drafts or journal entries.
Your task:
Identify a small set of summative assessments (2-3). Include at least one formative and one summative assessment.
For each of the assessments, create a rubric or some scoring guideline for how you will grade students (while we know that many assessments don’t need to be formally graded, I want you to practice the evaluation part for this assignment). Review our class discussion from Nov. 1 or the Burke text for ideas on the different types of scoring guidelines you might utilize.
For each of the assessments, write a paragraph explaining how this assessment is tied to the standards and/or objectives of your unit as a whole. Also discuss what material or lessons might come before the assessment to help support students’ understanding.
Note: Keep in mind that you should avoid the temptation of including too many major assessments in a single unit. You should instead focus on a few tasks that students can do well and that you can teach them how to do within the time limits of the unit.
