Research Paper Due Date: April 21st by 11:59PM. Worth 20% of your overall grade. There is a 10 point deduction each day that the Research Paper is late and will receive a zero after 3 days late.
Students will be required to submit an eight to ten (8-10) page research paper on one of the topics from the list that I provide as it relates to Police Work with Juveniles. The assignment must be written in the third-person (except when your opinion is stated). The paper needs to follow APA 7th Edition style
Look at the main issues surrounding juvenile delinquency. It will help you come up with an exciting, original and strong research paper topic.
These main issues are:
Background- this is a study of the factors that lead a child to becoming delinquent. You will study economic conditions, circles of influence, parents and their parenting style, among others.
Family influence- issues like divorce, frequent quarrels, lack of emotional attachment, lack of discipline at home, etc and how they lead children into delinquency.
Legal framework- the laws that affect juvenile delinquency and how they can be made more effective. Are the laws too strong or too lenient?
External influences- the influence of the media, video games and factors beyond the control of parents in driving children towards delinquency.
Remedies- this is an opportunity to propose solutions based on your diagnosis. The solution you suggest must be cross cutting. This means that it helps to solve the problem regardless of the cause.
You may modify the topics given to capture individual thoughts on juvenile delinquency. Your research paper should provide strong arguments and proceed to offer solutions that are practical. A strong topic will make the paper compelling to read.
TOPICS TO CHOSE FOR RESEARCH PAPER

You have a choice. Pick one of these three topics.
1. Environmental Factors Reinforcing Juvenile Delinquency
This is an interesting topic for a research paper. You could examine the factors that contribute to rising criminal activities among suburban youth in the U.S.; Why are suburban youth more prone to criminal activities than rural youth?
2. Should Juvenile Offenders Be Subjected to Capital Punishment or Sentencing
This is a very controversial issue in criminal justice discussions, which makes it a great research paper topic on juvenile delinquency. You could explore the different arguments for and against the death sentence on juvenile offenders.
3. Causes of Recidivism
You can also choose to explore the factors that contribute to recidivism among juvenile offenders.

No late assignments will be accepted, so please make note of the dates now at the start of the semester . No grades of Incomplete (INC) will be issued. I will not change any student’s grade unless there is a calculation error on my part. Do not email the Professor requesting extra time to complete the assignments. You will have plenty of time to do so during the semester and I will only say no if asked .
