ENC 1101-R
Final Paper
Throughout the
semester we have engaged in a study of human relationships, culture and the
cycle of oppression that results from the quest for freedom.  In many instances we have seen that
oppression stems from gender and filial bonds as much as it crosses
racial/cultural lines.
Please develop an
original thesis, formal outline (using the outline template) and a well thought
out essay (2-3 pages/500-750 words), bibliography, and PowerPoint presentation
exploring the question below:
Based on the film and subsequent discussion of John
Singleton’s 1995 film “Higher Learning”, please develop an original thesis and
argumentative essay about one of the major themes from our course readings
contained in the film.  You may also
decide to discuss one or more of the college pressures (from the Zinsser
article or otherwise) that these students face as long as your paper is
argumentative.
AS PART OF THIS ASSIGNMENT, PLEASE INCLUDE A
BIBLIOGRAPHY OF FIVE SOURCES (FROM ONLINE DATABASES WHICH YOU LEARNED TO ACCESS
IN THE LIBRARY PRESENTATION) THAT RELATES TO YOUR TOPIC.  YOU WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO QUORE FROM THEM
IN THE PAPER.
Please submit your formal typed
outline, bibliography (five sources) and the final paper (a complete paper), to
CANVAS by 11:59am on Thursday April 11th.
Presentations should follow the
brief format (see presentation guidelines) and will take place on Thursday
April 11th.  PLEASE POST YOUR
PRESENTATION TO CANVAS BY 5PM BEFORE CLASS.
Students will be called randomly after volunteers are exhausted.  If you are unprepared, you will forfeit the
points and presentation.  If you are
unprepared to present when called in class, or have not posted your PowerPoint
to Canvas you will not receive any points for the presentation (including those
posted to the wrong column).
FINAL PAPERS, OUTLINES AND BIBLIOGRAPHIES WILL BE DUE ON  THURSDAY APRIL 11TH AND MUST BE
POSTED TO CANVAS BY 11:59AM.
Be sure your paper
is typed, double spaced using 12-point times new roman font, using paragraphs
and proper indentation, and a proper heading or points will be deducted.
Students will receive points for each part of the final paper (including the
formal outline, paper, bibliotherapy, and PowerPoint presentation).  Failure to submit any portion of the paper
will result in the loss of points for that portion of the paper thereby
reducing the possible final grade for the final paper.
ALL PAPERS, PRESENTAIONS ETC. MUST BE POSTED TO THE CORRECT
COLUMN OR YOU WILL NOT RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THE ASSIGNMENT.  NO LATE PAPERS ACCEPTED–NO EXCEPTIONS.
