The significance of spiritual capital in an organization is has been linked to improved interpersonal and leadership skills and ethical behavior. “Spiritual Capital refers to the accumulated and enduring collection of beliefs, knowledge, values and dispositions that drive societal, organizational and interpersonal behavior” (Nihigu, 2017). Individual Spiritual Capital means having a clear personal value system, a personal moral vision, an ethos and motivation to transcend limitations and accountability to “higher standards” and “fundamental purposes”.
Spiritual capital within the workplace would be a good thing because it would mean that your employees have integrity and they make decisions with God in mind. An organization’s mission and vision statements will tell you a lot about the leadership within that organization. Ethics also become part of the equation when looking at spiritual capital. It is necessary to make ethical decisions in business in order to be successful and respected within the community. This also means that we should honor God through our actions, including our business dealings.
Spiritual capital contains five elements – (1) spiritual sensitivity, (2) spiritual leadership, (3) spiritual survival, (4) spiritual outreach, and (5) spiritual motivation (Martinez et al., n.d.). Spiritual capital measures the degree to which one experiences the propensity act in a financially compassionate way. Spirituality represents a sense of consciousness that interprets the principles that guide one’s choices. This means that one may focus on the promotion of oneself and his or her personal interests, or on the needs of those socially marginalized, or in other ways.
