April 7, 2024

Purpose
Students will be able to identify and apply key concepts and terminology associated with non-verbal communication to their own personal experiences.
The ability to interpret non-verbal communication for self and others is a skill. Part of learning a skill is practice. However, reflection also helps us to identify and utilize key concepts and terminology in our own experiences as well as make connections for learning.
Overview
Each 2-3 page reflection assignment will comprise of 75 points toward your grade. You will be given the prompts for each reflection assignment on the week they are assigned. You will need to relate your reflection to the course material. Be sure to use specific details and cite your textbook and/or external sources. Although you may include direct quotes from the textbook (primarily) and other sources, do so sparingly. To demonstrate understanding, include definitional explanation using your own words. This writing assignment should include two major sections: a 5-7 paragraph essay which includes an introduction and conclusion and a References page (please see Purdue University’s APA Style Guide (Links to an external site.) for more information).
Guidelines
For this assignment, please consider the following:
What have you learned about nonverbal communication that you did not know before this course that has significantly impacted how you interact with others at home, at school, and a work (if you work)? Include examples from your own experience and/or field observations.
Prepare an introduction with a thesis statement (the main idea of the entire paper in one sentence).
Prepare three to five body paragraphs in which you explain your experiences in relation to the non-verbal concepts we’ve discussed in this course (communication process, communication models, communication principles, and non-verbal communication codes).
