“Enemy images’ are used to justify the violence of war and oppression. They are used to justify the secrecy and hierarchical authority that characterize the culture of war. Not only are enemy images used to justify conflict against other nations, but they are also used to justify oppression and dehumanizing behavior towards people within countries, and intolerant immigrant policies.”
Students will:
– Present a current (between 2010-2024) ‘enemy’ and dehumanizing image (pictures or video with language). Include the image in the submission or the link to the video you are analyzing.
– Outline how the selected image or language in a video can be used to justify xenophobia, micro, and blatant aggression, dehumanization, stereotype, and discrimination towards specific immigrant populations; thus, limiting integration and equality (economic, political, and social) within that specific society.
– Within your answer integrate four assumptions from two of the required course readings (citation is required) to the realities of xenophobia, micro, and blatant aggression, dehumanization, stereotyping, and discrimination. Make sure your assumptions reflect similarly to the visual and your thesis.
– You can create counter-arguments that illustrate the limitations (problems, weaknesses) of the assumptions in the reading and/or central points in the film when compared to the visual and your thesis.
– Address how the selected ‘enemy’ and dehumanizing image has been reproduced in the society it was created in and the international community (in one other country).
– Discuss the consequence of this image and how these types of images can be counteracted (be specific in your plan).
– Submissions must be between 4-5 pages (this does not include the reference page). Make sure you note the article assumptions with an in-text citation–citations must be used and include a reference page.
– NO direct quotes.
– Must be APA 6th Edition
– Saved as a Microsoft Word Document
– Separate it into 4 sections: Introduction, Assumptions, Domestic and International Reproduction, Consequences and How to Counteract.
