After consulting the research guide that ARC Librarian Marianne Harris created and reading and annotating the prompt for Essay 3 Problem-Solution as well as the assigned pages from Chapters 1 and 3 from Models for Writers, answer the questions below.
For a chance at full credit, answer the questions below based on the prompt, then respond to two classmates’ responses. If we communicate with respect and civility, then it’s often easier for others to digest our thoughts. One idea for these discussions is to offer you an opportunity to exchange ideas in a community setting not win an argument.
All of your answers should total about 100 to 150 words; don’t write 100 to 150-word answers for each question. Think: three to five sentences per question.
Remember to number your answers. If you don’t copy the question then you must write your sentence so it’s absolutely clear what question you are answering. All sentences should be complete and correct.
1) Identify one idea from Chapter 1 “The Writing Process” that could help or did help you write your thesis statement.
2) Identify one idea from Chapter 3 “Thesis” that could help or did help you write your thesis statement.
3) Explore the research guide that ARC Librarian Marianne Harris created. Click on “Evaluating Sources” tab. Scroll to the “CRAAP Test Plus.” Identify one criteria (currency, relevance, etc.) for evaluating a source that you might use. Explain why it would be helpful to evaluate a source using that criteria. We will discuss evaluating sources more later, but you should know where to find the “CRAAP Test Plus” and have an idea of what information it contains.
4) Explore the research guide that ARC Librarian Marianne Harris created. Click on “MLA Style” tab. Scroll to “Citing Sources in MLA Style.” Read the first three pages. It’s ok if you don’t memorize all the information. What is one piece of information that you think will be helpful when you do your research later? We will discuss MLA more later, but you should know where to find the “MLA Style” document and have an idea of what information it contains. You should have used MLA style for your last essay’s  in-text or parenthetical citations and work cited page. You will use MLA (not APA or any other) style for page formatting, in-text or parenthetical citations, and annotated bibliography for this essay.
5) What questions do you have for me about doing the research for this essay? It’s ok if you don’t have any. Just write a sentence that says so.
