Today mental health systems strive to provide comprehensive can that considers the individuals’s psychological social, and physical well- being . this involves a multidisciplinary approach , including psychiatrists , therapists social workers, and peer support specialists.
In recent years there has been a growing awareness of mental health issues reducing the stigma surrounding mental illnesses . Efforts have been made to promote early intervention prevention , and destigmatization, encouraging individuals to seek help without fear of judgment.
However despite these improvements challenges persists in the current mental health system . limited access to affordable mental health services , long waiting time for treatment, and disparities in quality of care some of the issues that need attention . Additionally, covid- 19 pandemic has further strained mental health system , highlighting the need for increased resources and support.
In conclusion, the mental health system in our country today have made significant strides compared to the institution model of the 1960s . the shift towards community-based care and recovery -oriented approach has improved the overall quality of mental healthcare . however, challenges remain , and further efforts are needed to ensure accessible equitable , and comprehensive mental health support for all individuals in our society.

Globally, most people with mental illness, especially in the US, receive inadequate care. Conventionally recommended biological therapies for bipolar disorder, depression, schizophrenia, and other mental conditions have a limited track record of success. Collaborative models of care face numerous challenges. For example, they do not agree on research priorities and clinical practice guidelines, do not have residency training programs that focus on integrative medicine and CAM (complementary and alternative medicine), do not have enough reliable safety and effectiveness data on many integrative and CAM modalities, and do not have enough government agencies that can affect health care policy reform.
Another example comes from economic modeling research, which suggests that treatment plans integrating complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) with traditional biomedical therapy modalities may be expensive initially. This could be the cause of our inefficient mental health system.
