a. Uses, rather than reiterates, course readings to answer the question. Connect the
evidence to the question. Make the links between evidence and question clear.
b. Draws from several sources. Don’t ignore links between different weeks and
readings, or contrasts and contradictions.
i. Note: the goal of this test is to determine your comprehension of the
course readings. As such, you must cite the relevant course reading(s) in
your essays.
c. Is well organized, clear, linear. Good answers begin with an introductory
paragraph setting out what will be covered/argued, and end with a (brief)
summary.
d. Identifies and answers each component of the question. If the question is divided
into (a) and (b), the answer should be too. And each section should be so
designated.
e. A good answer clarifies voice. Always make clear whose claims or conclusions
you are presenting. Separate your analysis from that of the authors you are using.
f. References should be presented in standard academic (ASA or APA) style.
Regardless of which style that you select, please remember that you must
reference page numbers when using direct quotes or when referring to an idea
from a specific page/pages of a reading.
