This assignment is due by 11:59pm on Thursday, April 4

For your next blog post, you will need to write a literature review of at least 1 sociological, peer-reviewed, scholarly journal article.

Please makes sure to have read the Library Research Guide before working on this homework assignment.

For this homework assignment, you will be providing the citation and link for sociological, peer-reviewed journal article.

Instructions & Prompt

For this assignment, please answer the questions that follow. For information on how to submit this assignment, scroll down to “Submitting this Assignment.”

Please number your answers (based on the question you are answering).

  1. What question did you use in order to search for your scholarly articles. Please note that this was explained in the Library Research Guide, which is in the Week 8 module.
  2. Write title of the article, the names of the author(s) of the article, and the title of the journal that the article was published in.
  3. Now do the following about the article:
    1. Be sure that the article comes from one of the following journals, or a journal that I, your professor, have approved. As a reminder, these sources, as well as how to find articles in them, were indicated in the Library Research Guide: Social Problems, Social Forces, American Sociological Review, Annual Review of Sociology, Journal of Marriage and Family, Ethnic and Racial Studies, Sociology of Health and Illness, Sociology of Sport, Sociology of Religion, Social Science Quarterly. If you were unable to find an article to answer your research question from any of these journals, you can use an article from another journal as long as the article is sociological, a research article (about a study), and peer-reviewed.
    2. Write the full citation for this article. Remember that you can use MLA, APA or even ASA. As a reminder, I have shared how to write citations in the How to Write Citations page in the Week 8 module.
    3. Read the abstract for the article. The abstract is a short summary that appears at the top of the article. If there is no abstract, just read the conclusion/discussion at the end of the article. Answer the following:
      1. How do you know this article is sociological? If you got the article from one of the journals I listed in A above, you can just tell me that it is from one of those journals. If you got the article from another journal, please explain how you know the article is sociological — to do so, you may want to recall what you learned about the sociology discipline during Week 1 and Week 2.
      2. How do you know this article is peer-reviewed? To answer this, you can just confirm that you clicked the “Peer-Reviewed” box in your search for the articles.
      3. In 1 sentence, summarize the main argument of the article, according to this abstract.
      4. In a 2nd sentence, explain how you think the article speaks to the question you provided for #1 above.
      5. Remember that you will need to gain access to the entire article. Do you already have access to the entire article? If not, why not and how do you plan to get it?
  4. Finally, answer the following questions to tell me about your experience finding these peer-reviewed journal articles. To do so, please respond to the following 3 sets of questions. Please number your answers accordingly:
    1. Did you have trouble finding peer-reviewed research that spoke specifically to your question? If so, what do you make of that?
    2. Did you notice any patterns in the peer-reviewed research you found — for example, lots of research about one thing but not so much about another thing? Do you have any guesses about why these patterns exist?
    3. Anything else you want to share about your research experience so far?
