Economic and draft is attached ECON 100G: INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMICS
END OF TERM PROJECT GUIDELINES- WINTER 2024
DUE: Saturday, Introduction: The end of term paper requires you to be able to see some economic (micro and
macro) topics, principles and concepts in everyday life and news.
Task: Your task is to apply theories, models, concepts and principles from the course to enable
you analyze a news article in your own words.
Length of Paper: 2- 3 pages.
Font: Times new roman, 12
Spacing: Double spaced.
Structure
Introduction: Start by defining the concept you are going to use. For example, elasticity refers to
……. ., the law of demand states…… Then briefly outline what the article is about and what you
are going to discuss in your paper.
Main body: Discuss the connection between the topic area you select and the article you pick.
You can pick any approach depending on the article you select. Some possible approaches will be
to explain, critique, justify, recommend or predict.
As an example, with this sample article, https://globalnews.ca/news/5918532/vancouver-gas-
price/ , the approach will be to explain the cause of the gas price increase (decrease in supply) and
also explain the recommendation to not fill up (production is not back to normal). I can conclude
on the note of this recommendation being in line with economic theory (Consumer behavior when
prices are expected to decrease)
If you have an article on let us say, a province deciding to increase its minimum wage, you can
use economic theory to critique why this may not be a good idea and go ahead to predict it’s
effects.
Hint: A greater score will be allotted to students who are able to do a good research, connect
the concepts very clearly and use relevant graphs to support their writing. A full rubric is
provided at the end.

Conclusion: Briefly summarize the main ideas covered in your paper.
Citation: The paper should follow the APA citation style for both in-text citations and
references. If you are unsure of how to do this, this link should be helpful.

Draft Report: You are required to submit a draft report to Canvas by 11:59 pm on Saturday,
March 16. The purpose of the draft report is to give you an opportunity to receive feedback to
help you produce a good final report. At the very least, you should be able to mention the article
you are going to use and include your introduction. However, the more you are able to write, the
more feedback you will receive. Students who do not submit the draft will receive a penalty of
three points deduction from their final score on the paper.
