The topic of your paper must be a work of architecture selected from chapters 1-7 of your textbook. (already chosen below)

Your essay will explain the meaning and function of the building you select through visual analysis and historical context.
Therefore, the essay should be both descriptive and analytical of the architectural structure you select.
Hint: Break it down into three steps: (follow these steps, do not stray. Each step should be for a page to make it easier)
1. Function: Was purpose does it serve (page 1)
2. The Historical Context (when was it created? what aspects of the design relate to the time period it was created? (page 2)
This might include materials, technology, knowledge
And/or Design influences related to cultural time period and region
3. Reading the Iconography (page 3)
Decoding any symbolic imagery from sculpture to mosaic to the very design of the building
Tip 1: Remember a visual analysis is not just description, the essay should address describe the historical context of the work, even if it is a contemporary example.
Tip 2: Use the vocabulary of art and architecture we have learned so far in this class!
Required Number of RESOURCES: You should have at least three (3) resources in addition to the textbook or class pdfs.
