For this week, we will do something a little different.
For your initial post, you have been assigned a classmate(s)to partner with.
Set up a video chat with this colleague for 15-20 minutes using the video chat app of your choice.
Possible options include Google Hangouts, WhatsApp, FaceBook Messenger, ooVoo, Tango Video Chat, Skype, etc.
During your video chat, you should consider this week’s readings (Chapters 11, 21, 22) and
Discuss the scope of practice related to telehealth, mobile computing, or computer use in health care.
Discuss the potential benefits of the use of video chat in the nursing education setting
For the purpose of this discussion thread, you and your partner should each document your video chat.
Whom did you partner with? What insights did you get from this discussion about the use of informatics tools? Feel free to use the following questions as a framework for your discussion
Use the Internet to preview health care related software that you might use on a mobile device. Post a link to the site. Discuss the similarities and differences between the printed book view and the electronic view.
Define the two overall classifications of technology used in telehealth.
List three essential competencies for telenursing.
Select one of the issues in implementing telehealth and discuss the different approaches for resolving the issue.
Find a research study done with telehealth. Provide a reference to the study. Summarize your findings.
Research at least two types of simulations used in nursing education. What are the strengths and limitations of each type for both instructors and students?
Research at least two types of debriefing methods used in conjunction with simulation. What are the strengths and limitations of each method?
What are some emerging trends for e-learning for nurses? Create a “bullet listing” of talking points for at least three emerging trends.
My partners post below…
Define the two overall classifications of technology used in telehealth
Telehealth expands the reach of healthcare services beyond traditional settings, enabling remote diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment through telecommunications technology (Haleem et al., 2021). In telehealth, technology can be broadly classified into synchronous and asynchronous. Synchronous technology involves real-time communication between healthcare providers and patients, akin to an in-person remote consultation (Hoffman, 2020). This includes video conferencing, live chat features, and telephone consultations, allowing for immediate interaction and exchange of information. Synchronous telehealth facilitates prompt assessment, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations, enhancing access to care. On the other hand, asynchronous technology refers to communication methods where there is a delay between transmitting and receiving information (Hoffman, 2020). Examples include secure messaging platforms and electronic health record (EHR) systems. Asynchronous telehealth enables patients to upload medical data at their convenience, which healthcare providers can review and respond to later.
