Frame a comparative context through which students can critically assess the ideas, forces, and values that have created the modern world.
Analyze significant primary texts and works of art, ancient, pre-modern, and modern, as forms of cultural and creative expression
Use problem-solving as an application of critical thought.
Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills.
Directions:
The Analytical Research Paper is a continuation of our “Research Proposal and Working Bibliography” where you choose your own from a primary text (one of the stories, play, and poems) as the foundation of your research paper to formulate a research question.  The purpose of the research paper is for you to engage in an in depth-analysis of your topic, and to create a specific, narrow, and significant main argument, utilizing a primary source and  scholarly sources as a focal point. 
Format requirement: please use MLA in-text citation whether you are paraphrasing or quoting.  Remember, your ideas must be yours.
A successful paper will have the following elements:
A well-developed/compelling thesis statement/argument (last sentence of the intro);
Supportive paragraphs with topic sentences;
At least five secondary sources in addition to your primary text;
Quotes from primary and secondary sources supporting your points. Please do not overwhelm your paper with quotes;
Introducing your quotes. Examples: According to Swift/Moliere/Adichie, “…”; he/she claims/states/asserts, “…”, etc.;
Explanation/analysis of quotes;
Transitions—between paragraphs;
Proper MLA formatting (in-text citation and works cited);
Times New Roman, 12-point font, double-spaced.
Note
Research paper from previous classes and/or semesters will not be accepted. Ideas must be original.
