Directions: The tutoring project report is your opportunity to reflect on the entire tutoring experience. Avoid simply summarizing, but dig deeper to include your thoughts, insights, and analysis of your work with the student.
The report should be 4-6 pages
Written in a narrative, connected discourse format
Size 12 font
Include a title page
Abstract not required
Reference page only required if you included citations
And should address all of the following:
Introduction/Background on Tutee
Provide general background information (name, grade, age, family).
Describe what you learned about the student’s culture, community, lifestyle, funds of knowledge (include examples), interests, attitude towards reading, academic strengths and needs.
Instructional Plan
Describe your goals.
How did your curricular choices reflect the student’s culture, language, and interests?
Describe the motivational and instructional strategies used and why you selected them to meet the needs of your student.
How did the instructional strategies promote language development?
Provide examples of how instruction was monitored and adjusted to meet the needs of the tutee.
Mirrors and Windows
Describe the experience of sharing the book you selected with your student.
How did the discussion and activities around the book help you and the student explore their identity? (Mirror) Or build knowledge about another culture? (Window)
Reflection
Describe the successes and challenges
Propose next steps for the student.
Describe the role culture and language plays in academic instruction and learning.
Describe possible changes that may have improved the tutoring experience.
Explain what you learned about the role assessment plays in instruction.
Explain what you have learned about yourself as an educator.
