Please state your Final Research Paper and Visual Presentation topic here. See below for requirements of the finals.
Final Research Paper: A written paper on a group counseling theory of interest to you will be completed (7-10 pages) with 6 references (professional peer reviewed journal articles and/or up to 2 books) written in APA format. You may use the same references for your power-point. Topics will require professor approval. Please make sure you have enough research to support your topic before you choose a topic. This paper should be a total of 7-10 pages and should be written in APA format. You should include a cover page and a reference page as well (Not included in the 7 pages). This is a research paper; therefore you should not add your opinions or personal experience. For example, you should not use the words “I think”, “I feel” or “My…” etc…
Few pointers:
-Be mindful of grammar. Look over your paper for any errors before you submit it.
-Be on time. You have the entire semester to complete this paper. I will not accept any late papers for any reason.
-Double check your APA format.
Visual Presentation: Students will also create a power-point presentation with an overview of the group counseling theory of interest (same topic as final paper). This will allow classmates the ability to review the theory with visuals (pictures, videos, links etc.) included. Your final visual presentation will be on the same topic as the final paper. Your presentation overview must be in power-point and have a total of 10 slides. Your last slide should be your references. You will need a total of 6 references (professional peer reviewed journal articles and/or up to 2 books). Then, you will create an additional 5 slides (15 slides in total) providing a mock example of the group theory in practice (use pretend dialogue between facilitator and clients as needed).  For an example, please see page 140 in the text (case of Bill). Please describe the population, setting, and focus/goals of the mock group. You will create a mock group topic and facilitate a group discussion in the style you have chosen. Understanding the theory is important, however, placing it into practice and teaching it to peers is the ultimate learning experience! Please see canvas for more information regarding requirements.
-Content- Be sure that your references are up-to-date and relate well to your topic. Your information should support your topic.
-Organization- Your slides should be well organized. Ask yourself the question “Would someone understand my topic if all they see is my power-point?”
-APA- Make sure your references are in APA format. This is VERY important. You only need to cite information within your power-point slides if you are quoting information or providing statistics etc… Otherwise, your presentation content should be in your own words.

Please state your Final Paper and Presentation Topic
The Final Paper and Presentation topic requires professor approval as described in the syllabus.
Make sure you have enough research available to support your topic.
Please see the syllabus for more information.
The topic I would like to research is the effectiveness of using person-centered theory in group counseling with individuals diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. I will then create a visual PowerPoint with an overview of person-centered theory as well as a mock example of the theory.
